Rainbow Row is a cluster of 18th century Georgian row houses that were home to shops and markets on the first floor, occupied by the merchants on the upper floors. This was the colonial commercial district of Charleston. The block was popular with merchants because of the commanding views down to the wharves beyond the city walls where they could oversee the unloading of cargo. Called rainbow row because of the beautiful pastel colors on the facades.
Rainbow Row is the iconic collection of homes in Charleston that is known world-wide.
