The beach at Kiawah Island is the furthest beach from the city we have visited. Beachwalker Park provides public access and is maintained by the Charleston County Parks system. Kiawah Island is a private resort community, so there is nothing else on the island for public use other than a service station. Beachwalker Park provides a lifeguard-manned swimming area, as well as restroom, shower and vending facilities along the path to the beach.
This beach is very manicured due to its location on a resort island. The beach is dotted with condos and homes, but they do no intrude on the natural environment or detract from the beach in any way. The surf is gentle here, and the sand is soft and warm. It is a little less wild than the beach at Sullivan's Island, but is quieter than the beaches at Isle of Palms and Folly Beach. This could be characterized as a "family beach" as you may see more small children as well as older couples here. The beach does not attract as many teenagers, college students or surfers as Folly Beach or even Isle of Palms.
It seemed less crowded than others, thereby making it more relaxing.
This is probably my favorite lounging beach; however, there are no other attractions nearby. That generally means that going to this beach is the sole purpose for driving to the area.
The scenery along the way is unmatched. Much of the road is draped with long branched, old growth trees.
I like Kiawah because it is remote and quieter than the other beaches. Kiawah is a long drive from the city, but is worth it if you want a peaceful, quiet retreat. A nice wide beach for walking and wading in the surf.
