The Beach at Isle of Palms can get very crowded. This beach is perhaps the most developed of the beaches in the area. Ocean Boulevard runs parallel the Front Beach providing street parking and access to the Isle of Palms County Park for those wishing to pay the fee. Along Ocean Boulevard, the beach is packed with condos, hotels, restaurants and clubs. Elsewhere along the beach, the beachfront is lined by mansions and large beach homes.
The beach is soft and sandy here, and the surf is gentle for wading and swimming. Water seems clearer here than at beaches to the south, with the exception of Kiawah Island. Lots of tidal pools to explore north of Front Beach. There are a variety of specialty and gift shops along Ocean Boulevard across the street from the public beach access paths. These are fun to stroll through after sitting on the beach a few hours. The northern end of Isle of Palms is home of the Wild Dunes Resort.
There are a variety of reasons I like this beach. I believe it is the widest of the beaches in the area, and has the most dry sand area for blankets and chairs. The dunes are low here because of all the development along the beachfront. This is my favorite beach to walk along to see the views of the big, beautiful homes along the way. There is usually a lot of activity on the beach, concentrating at the Front Beach area, making this a fun beach for people-watching. The beach north of here, on the other side of the pier, is wide and a little quieter, enjoyed by a lot of resort-goers and renters. This is a nice flat, long beach for walks and wading.
There are usually some windsurfers along the Isle of Palms beach.
