Charleston and the Lowcountry communities offer history, relaxation, culture, and a great escape from everyday life. No matter what you are looking for in your travels, Charleston has something to offer you!
The city of Charleston proper is located on a peninsula created by two rivers, and Charleston County includes areas east of the Cooper River and west of the Ashley River, along with an assortment of barrier islands along the Atlantic coast.
In the city of Charleston's Old and Historic District on the peninsula, we have extensively explored the areas of Meeting, Market, King, Church, Chalmers, Tradd, Queen, Water and Battery Streets, yet we still discover new attractions, shops, tours, and historical facts with each visit.
The surrounding communities include the towns of Mount Pleasant, Sullivan's Island, and Isle of Palms, all east of the Cooper River from downtown. The town of Folly Beach, and the Charleston County communities of West Ashley, James Island, John's Island, Wadmalaw Island, Kiawah Island, and Seabrook Island are all located west of the Ashley River from downtown. All of these communities have their own character and identity and offer a wide variety of attractions and getaways from downtown Charleston.
