The Boathouse offers "simply fresh seafood" with some modern twists at their two locations in Charleston. The Breach Inlet location is located right at the tip of Isle of Palms, with a view of the intracoastal waterway. It's an excellent place to have some fine seafood while taking in a view of the sunset over the marshes. Reservations are recommended and can be booked on-line. The Boathouse is located on the site where the H L. Hunley was launched.
We chose The Boathouse at Breach Inlet after Steven heard a review from a friend and for the sunset view back towards the Intercoastal waterway. We ordered the fried green tomatoes with black eyes pea vinaigrette appetizer and they were very good. I had a special that included a crab cab and broiled tilapia with jalapeno cream sauce. They were extremely good. The sunset view was awesome. We were luckily seated at the rear of the restaurant with an excellent view that overlooked the Intercoastal waterway looking back towards Sullivan's Island.
The Boathouse at Breach Inlet is now my favorite restaurant in Charleston. The dining room offers great views of the water and the sunset, even from the indoor seating areas. There is also an outdoor deck if you want to wait for a table. We ordered the fried green tomatoes with black-eyed pea vinaigrette and roma tomato jam for an appetizer. The tomatoes were moderately ripe, neither crisp nor soft, the perfect texture for being fried. The batter was light and flaky. For entree, I chose the filet & crab cake. The filet mignon was so tender, it was almost like butter on my tongue, and the crab cake was dense and spectacularly herbed, served with a tasty green Tabasco sauce that complimented the freshness of the crab well. The wild rice blend was very flavorful. Prices were a little higher than your standard fare, at 28 for my entree, however still very reasonable for such high quality food. Service was attentive and quicker than expected for such a packed restaurant. You will not get in here without a reservation! I will definitely be returning.
